When looking for a preschool on the Peninsula, we realize you have a lot of choices and factors to consider. Do you want a year round school? Are you in need of part time or full time care? How important are extra-curricular activities (cooking, music etc.)? What about security and staff training? Obviously price is a factor as well. We understand and hear these concerns from many families as they look to find a place that is a good fit for their child or children.
As you may have seen from our website, Ganon strives to offer as comprehensive a preschool, in a supportive multi-cultural environment, as possible. There are many things that, together, make Ganon a unique school where children can learn and grow. First of all, we are one of the few Jewish preschools in the area. We are the only Jewish program serving families which need full time care and education for their children. We are also the only Jewish school on the Peninsula which features care for infants and toddlers. However, our families come from backgrounds of all faiths and ethnicities. We are an inclusive school on all fronts. That being said, learning about the basics of Judaism is an important part of our curriculum. This includes a short sing-along Sabbath ceremony on Friday mornings that all parents are encouraged to attend, as well as the older kids making Challah (braided bread) every week to take home and share with their families. The holidays are also an important time for learning and we find that the kids enjoy all of the activities centered around various Jewish themes. Throughout each week we seek to include Jewish values and traditions into our daily plan.
However, there is a lot more to our school than just the religious aspect. We have, what we think is, the best playground of any preschool in the area! We recently just finished renovating both the tot and older children’s play areas and added a black top surface so now they can also ride their trikes and bikes too! It is an extremely large area that rivals some local parks. The kids love it! We also have weekly music with a professional children’s musician as well as gymnastics about twice a month for those 2 and up. Finally, for our Preschoolers, we have an additional large motor program to help them develop self-control, healthy habits and combat childhood obesity. Cooking, dramatic play, art and science are also an important parts of many of our lessons, and our staff go way out of their way to work to bring the children a great educational experience on a daily basis. The list goes on and on, and we’d be happy to fill you in on the many other things that make our San Mateo preschool special. So feel free to give us a call to take a tour and learn more.
